Creating a new brand for Mount Holly
The needs
Enhance the quality and focus of expected development in Mount Holly. City leaders hoped that Charlotte's growth and the opening of the I-485 Outer Loop would turn their longtime textile-mill center into an attractive ring city. Then they discovered that some builders saw the area as best suited for low-quality starter homes.
Our contributions
Team members, working with Mount Holly's Community Development Foundation and city staff, created a plan for high-quality economic growth that leveraged the city's 8 miles of Catawba riverfront and a growing public interest in environmentally sustainable living.
A public-private project called Mount Holly Riverwalk would give physical focus to this rebranding. Riverwalk would convert a small park and municipal buildings near downtown Mount Holly into a riverside public events area and regional arts-and-crafts center. Riverwalk would host many events such as hikes and kayaking trips.
The plan also called for freshening up downtown Mount Holly as a pedestrian-friendly place to dine and shop, and aggressively marketing Mount Holly as the region's only River City.
