Gaining public support for new idea
The need
Forsite, a company specializing in finding new uses for industrial sites, needed help building public acceptance of a new way of generating power that it hoped to bring to a reclaimed Superfund site in northwest Mecklenburg County.
Our contributions
Members of the Green Moose team spent time learning about the proposed power plant as well as the developer's total plan, to create the region's first Renewable Energy Eco-Industrial Park.
The total development, including a power plant that uses materials ranging from wood chips to household trash for fuel, could bring up to 1,000 jobs to a former chemical-plant site near the Catawba River.
Our experts began meeting with many community groups, local leaders and members of the media to explain the project's many benefits and bring back any concerns to the developer.
Relevance today
Many businesses are developing new technologies and seeking places to operate. Most staffs lack the expertise to assess whether such operations can help or hurt their communities. Green Moose works closely with a wide range of experts in business and at area universities who can provide the information communities need to make informed decisions.
