Create a voluntary eco-district
The need
Business leaders in northwest Mecklenburg County wanted a better "brand" to support higher-end development.
Our contributions
Members of the Green Moose team have worked with the business community and elected officials representing five jurisdictions to launch a voluntary district along the Catawba River that promotes environmentally sustainable living.
The Catawba River District has no official status. Rather, its leaders are developing a 16,000-acre "state of mind" in Mecklenburg and Gaston counties where businesses, municipalities, residents and even visitors feel encouraged to protect our environment. Our team members helped craft a certification process that rewards people who build or renovate structures that meet high standards for preserving energy and protecting the Catawba River.
We have identified and are leading efforts to secure funding from governments, foundations and businesses. We are collaborating with several groups, ranging from the developers of the ReVenture Eco-Industrial Park to Centralina Council of Governments, to secure funding.
We are working closely with the IDEA Center at UNC Charlotte and leaders at local community colleges to develop the expertise needed for some our ambitious proposals. We are building a network of communication avenues to tell our story and build community support..
Relevance today
Every community has assets. Sometimes we stop seeing them or see them only in a certain way. The Catawba River District shows what can happen with a fresh perspective. Green Moose experts are dedicated to discovering new opportunities and developing the support to make them a reality. We can help your staff see new opportunities, too.
